1L Reps - Tanner, Emily & Kathryn
A01 Rep - Tanner
Hello! My name is Tanner Kornelsen (he/him) and I am a first year law student, graciously serving as the A01 Representative.
I have a strong interest in advocacy and graduated from the University of Winnipeg in 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice. I began working at Stony Mountain Institution in 2020 as an Institutional Parole Officer, where I gained immense perspective and experience relating to how marginalized populations interact with the legal system. My passion and energy led me to leadership roles in multiple workplace initiatives, including the Wellness Committee, the Staff Events Committee, the Airport Escort team, organizing summer students, and joining the local Union as a shop steward.
I plan on carrying this enthusiasm into my studies and the community here at Robson Hall. In representing A01, I want to contribute to a welcoming and collaborative environment, and ensure that my peers know they have a voice. I am always around and available if you need to talk about anything, ranging from study groups to stressful situations that may come up this year.
In my free time, I love playing and watching several sports (especially soccer and hockey, respectively), reading, board games, and trying new restaurants and activities in Winnipeg with friends. I’ve also joined several other Robson Hall groups and committees, most notably the Criminal Law Group as a 1L Representative.
Please let me know if you have any questions or comments regarding my role or how we can work together to further enrich our student experience.
A02 Rep - Emily

Prior to beginning her legal studies, Emily earned a Bachelor of Science with a minor in business from the University of Manitoba. During her undergraduate years, she was deeply involved in student leadership, holding roles in the Science and Commerce Students’ Associations, contributing to initiatives like 5 Days for the Homeless, and organizing the Bison’s Walk-a-thon for Childhood Cancer. Emily's commitment to the student body was further demonstrated through her role as Vice-President Advocacy for the University of Manitoba Students’ Union (UMSU), where she represented over 28,000 undergraduate students. Emily has had a longstanding passion for debate and advocacy as an internationally recognized public speaker and more recently as a fellow with the United Nations (UN) and European Commission (EU).
As the 1L A02 representative, Emily is dedicated to supporting her classmates throughout their first year of law school, with a focus on fostering an environment where students not only succeed but thrive. She aims to create opportunities for growth, facilitate collaboration, and work closely with other 1L representatives to build a welcoming and supportive community at Robson Hall. I was born and raised in Winnipeg and recently completed my BA in Political Science at McGill University. At Robson Hall, I am currently involved with Pro Bono Students Canada, the Environmental Law Group, curling and soccer!
