ACADEMIC COMMITTEE

What does this committee do for you?

The Academic Committee helps to support Robson Hall students in learning, offering study tips, advice, and providing resources that can be used to achieve success!  The Academic Committee also serves as a bridge between students and faculty in terms of academic-related questions. The Committee also runs the Outline Bank found on the MLSA website. During exam season, this is an invaluable resource to both first years and upper years alike. It is a resource we are always looking to expand, and we intend to work on a new method for sourcing outlines this incoming school year.

Why should you join this awesome committee?

Members of the Academic Committee become a crucial part of providing guidance at Robson Hall by offering info sessions on exams and what to expect, study tips, creating outlines, and more! Members have the opportunity to be involved in creating and maintaining these critical resources.

Hi, I’m Emily Kalo (she/her), a second-year law student at Robson Hall and currently one of the Co-Chairs of the Academic Committee for the 2025–2026 year.

I recently wrapped up my 1L year, where I served as the A02 Class Representative. Before law school, I completed a Bachelor of Science with a minor in business at the University of Manitoba. I’ve always loved being involved in student life—whether it was through the Science and Commerce Students’ Associations, supporting causes like 5 Days for the Homeless, or organizing the Bison’s Walk-a-thon for Childhood Cancer. I also had the privilege of serving over 28,000 students as Vice-President Advocacy for the University of Manitoba Students’ Union (UMSU) and most recently worked as a Fellow in Equity, Anti-Oppression, and Social Justice with the Office of Equity Transformation. Advocacy and public speaking have been part of my journey for a long time. I’ve competed on international stages and more recently served as a fellow with the United Nations (UN) and European Commission (EU).

I’m incredibly excited to take on the role of Academic Committee Co-Chair this year. Supporting students and shaping the academic experience at Robson Hall is something I care deeply about. I’m looking forward to working with faculty and students to tackle meaningful academic issues, build stronger communication, and help make law school a place where everyone can thrive.
