Georgette Caranay

Hiya everyone! My name is Georgette Caranay and I am your Racialized Students’ Representative for the 2025/2026 academic school year.

Prior to law school, I completed a degree in Political Studies and Sociology. Ever since I joined the Robson Hall community, I have been involved in No Means No, the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers (FACL), the Manitoba Law Reform Commission, and I sit as a Co- Chair for the Social Committee.

Outside of school, you will find me watercolour painting, reading, journaling, running, or enjoying a good London Fog. Above all, I absolutely love spending time with my family and friends! This typically involves watching shows/movies, playing videogames, fishing with my family, or walking around the city with my friends after consuming amounts of food that can only be compared to the gluttony they speak of in the Bible.

I was admittedly very nervous during those days leading up to my first day of law school. Law school can be quite the daunting experience, but it certainly helps not having to go through it alone. As the Racialized Students’ Representative, it is my role to help promote diversity and advocate for the interests of students from a variety of different cultural backgrounds. What is important to me is building a more inclusive environment where everyone can feel safe, accepted, and a sense of belonging within this legal community of ours.

If you have any concerns or suggestions, reach out to me any time! I also love chatting about anything with anyone so feel free to reach out to me or stop me in the halls to ramble about whatever! TOODLES!
